Family Season

Family Season

Our garden. Our kitchen. Our September.

1. Theme of the month

September

Harvest Month

How it went

Which of these will become our autumn habit?

— We came back from grandma's with three buckets of tomatoes and ate half of them in the garden. — Dad over-salted the first jar of cucumbers; the second was good enough that people asked for the recipe. — Mark made the jam himself and let nobody stir it: plum, a little bitter, but his own. — Nine of us sat down at the table, and the guests took jars home.

2. Weeks of the month4 weeks – from the bed to the table

Week 1

Off to grandma's — bringing in the crop

Week 2

Pickling cucumbers and tomatoes, jars sealed

Week 3

Making jam and labelling the jars

Week 4

Laying the table and inviting guests

Our goal for the month

Make something with our own hands that lasts into winter.

Ideas for next month

— Month of our own neighbourhood: walk every street and draw our own map. — Bake bread on our own starter and take it to grandma. — Sort out the cellar and label everything that has stood there since last year. — A week of cooking only from what we put up ourselves.
